| Water softening is reduction of concentration of Ca & Mg ions which are the main cause of the
hardness of water. Ca & Mg ions are exchanged with Na ions with the help of ion exchange resins.
The capacity of ion exchange resins gradually gets exhausted and it then contains divalent ions of
Ca and Mg |
| The ion exchange resins are required to be regenerated again which is done with Sodium Chloride
(Common salt). Typical water softening plant consists of cation column fitted with multiport value and
